Developer Pavetra Games and publisher SayGames break down their five-year partnership, including how SayGames gradually shifted from hands-on product support to user acquisition, marketing, analytics, LiveOps and licensing as the studio matured. A recent Terminator 2 collaboration attracted 2.5M players, boosting IAP revenue by around 40% and daily downloads by as much as 45%.

Escape the Backrooms began as a solo side project but grew alongside the explosion of Backrooms and liminal-space content across YouTube, games and social media. After the game itself took off, Secret Mode and Blackbird Interactive helped scale it to consoles, crossplay and Game Pass. They timed the console launch one day before A24’s Backrooms movie hit theaters. The result: more than 4 million players, showing how indie developers can turn an existing cultural trend into something much bigger when the timing and execution line up.

Senior lighting artist Karim Yasser, whose credits include Dune: Awakening and Gears of War: E-Day, is developing an Unreal Engine 5 plugin that lets artists paint lighting and shadows directly onto scenes like a 2D image. The non-destructive tool includes paint, smudge, gradient, lasso and smoothing controls, giving game artists more direct control over lighting while potentially speeding up environment workflows. An early-access release is planned.
