Anthropic has confirmed an update to Claude Opus 5.5 designed to discourage AI-generated recreations of existing video games. The change directs Claude Code toward original games and user-owned designs rather than copying specific titles, even when clones are renamed. It follows growing concerns among indie developers, including Moonlighter studio Digital Sun, which postponed a public playtest over fears of AI-powered copycats. However, developers may still be able to bypass restrictions or turn to other AI models, leaving broader concerns about game cloning unresolved.

Aura has introduced Autopilot, an open-source AI playtesting system that can autonomously play games, verify mechanics and complete objectives across Unreal Engine 5, Unity 6 and Godot 4. Unlike scripted testing tools, Autopilot learns from previous attempts, adapting its strategies to navigate environments, fight enemies and uncover gameplay issues. In the team's own benchmarks, it completed all 7 test tasks, compared with 5 for Claude Code and 4 for a competing AI agent, while finishing roughly 40% faster than Claude Code. The system supports everything from puzzle games to FPS and Soulslike combat.
